The process of creating a work of art is once again a theme for Guillermo Calderón, this time presented in overlapping layers. La Segunda Vida de un Dragón, narrated by the Chilean playwright’s company, is about the creation of his former play Dragón, that premiered in 2019, and the political and social instability which give raise to reviews of the play – the protests that started in Chile in October 2019 and led to a still current revolution, transformed by the Covid-19 pandemics.

Similar issues are visited on the second layer: Dragón the play, now the theme of a video, also deals with the idea of a performance-play, entangling its creators in a questioning web of the social contribution of art.

Both narratives are combined and mixed so that the images made for the video, along with documentary material, become a record of Chile’s recent history. La Segunda Vida de un Dragón is a reflective document, produced under the heat of discussions on the relationship between the unstable political moment and art.
