Starting with the death of activist Yudi Macarena Valdés Muños, in Trewa, Estado-Nación o el Espectro de la Traición the play by KIMVN Teatro looks to the theme of violence against the Mapuches, the originary natives of the Central-South region of Chile and Argentina. In 2016, a few days after a manifestation against the installation of a power station in the Rio Tanguil, Yudi was found dead at home. Since then, her family, friends and activists have disputed the official version of suicide.

Trewa is about those facts and echoes of the violence and injustice among the activist’s family members. On stage, set amidst a snow-covered wood is the house where kins and friends chat, eat and dance in a representation of the mapuche history, traditions, and idiom. Macarena Valdés is present in homages and reports on the judicial investigations review process, but she is also present on stage as a spectral figure that follows the narrative and – along with the live music – gives the play a melancholic and anguished tone.

KIMVN Teatro
The company, founded in 2008 by its director Paula González Seguel, is devoted to rescuing the oral memory of the Mapuches, working with its culture, idiom and cosmovision in plays like Ñuke and ÑI PU TREMEN – My ancestors.
