In an intense and powerful monologue, this version of the play Mãe Coragem binds the trajectory of the main character Anna Ferling through scenes from the play by Bertolt Brecht and narrations by Bete Coelho.
Having played the character in the production that premiered on stage under the direction of Daniela Thomas, the actress presents and performs some parts of the play; she comments on the context of the text creation and aspects of Brecht’s theater, and thus walks along with the narrative about the mother of three children who, during the Thirty Years’ War, survives by trading goods she brings in her cart.
In the same way that Brecht uses history to address the rise of Nazism that he experienced in Germany in 1939, the performance comments on the war and the violence that dehumanize us, at a time when such issues come back to haunt us.
