Walking through the personal and the collective, combining the subjectivity and politics of this crossing, the creators and performers of Aurora Negra materialize in their bodies several racist and misogynist situations that they and other black women still experience in Portugal and in the world.

The artists invest in music, dance, and sound registers to describe their memories and dreams and reaffirm their individualities permeated by ancestry, desires, and frustrations. On stage, they respond to stereotypes and cliches about the black female body, using humor and anger. Cleo, Isabél, and Nádia tell their own stories speaking Creole, Chokwe, and Portuguese, sticking the black body on the stage claiming its space in performing arts. Together, they retake and embody the famous phrase of the Brazilian writer Juliana Borges: "A happy black woman is a revolutionary act."
