A venue to review Latin American theater groups’ standing on the issue of demolishing official reports in the continent and the challenges ahead.

This meeting closes the program that started with the activity “Latin American Open Screens,” where collectives were organized in shared networks to talk about the search for symbolic and inclusive reports of our history. Alongside the groups, participants of the laboratory Demolição e Criação de Monumentos (Monuments Demolition and Creation) present the artistic reflections raised during the activity.

Clowns de Shakespeare
Founded in 1993 in Natal, the capital city of Rio Grande do Norte, the group focuses on research and creating a theater portraying the Brazilian-Northeastern, and Latin American popular expressions.  Sua Incelença Ricardo III (His Excellency Richard III) and O Capitão e a Sereia (The Captain and the Mermaid) are examples of their plays.

Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani
“I’m thinking, I’m recalling” is the English translation for the Quecha name of the group. Founded in 1971, their work deals with social memory, using several languages and mainly focusing on the body and presence of actors.

Malayerba
Founded by Argentinian and Spanish immigrants in the end of the 70s in Quito, Ecuador, the group has already staged more than 20 plays, among which La Razón Blindada (Shielded Reason), Bicicleta Lerux (Lerux Bycicle), De un Suave Color Blanco (Of a soft white color) and La República Análoga (The Analog Republic).

Teatro de los Andes
In 1991 César Brie founded the Bolivian group, integrated by artists from Latin American countries. They work with collective creation and have produced the “Trilogy of Life” with La Ilíada (Illiad), En un Sol Amarillo (On a Yellow Sun), and Marcelo.

Teatro del Embuste
The collective was founded in 2014 with artists of different theatrical backgrounds. Either working with their own playwriting or adaptations of Latin American texts, the group seeks to involve the audience, like in the play Rebu with Jô Bilac’s text.

Sergio Luis V. de Oliveira
Graduated in history from PUC/SP, he works as a cultural consultant at Sesc São Paulo. Specialized in culture management, he was the curator of Mirada – the Ibero-American Festival of Performing Arts (2014-16) and the Rio Preto International Festival (2010-17).
